Kanpur Court Orders Release of Rs 12 Crore Lamborghini After Owner Posts Rs 8.3 Crore Bond

In a significant development in the high-profile Kanpur Lamborghini crash case, the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Suraj Mishra has ordered the release of the Rs 12 crore Lamborghini Revuelto. The luxury vehicle was released late on Friday after its owner furnished a substantial bond of Rs 8.3 crore.

Background of the February Crash Incident

The Lamborghini, bearing a Delhi registration number, was seized by Kanpur police following a chaotic accident on February 8. The supercar, allegedly being driven at high speed, rammed into pedestrians on a busy stretch, colliding with a parked motorcycle and an autorickshaw. The incident left at least six people injured and caused significant damage to several vehicles.

The driver identified as Shivam Mishra, son of tobacco tycoon KK Mishra, was arrested four days after the crash on charges of reckless driving. He surrendered before the court on February 12 and was granted bail within hours after furnishing a personal bond of Rs 20,000.

Legal Proceedings and Court Conditions

Following the seizure, the car owner filed an application seeking the vehicle's release. The case saw procedural complexities as two local courts recused themselves from hearing it before CJM Suraj Mishra took up the matter.

The CJM granted the Lamborghini's release with strict conditions:

  • The owner cannot sell or transfer the vehicle
  • No alterations to the car's color, engine, or chassis number are permitted
  • The vehicle must be produced as required by authorities
  • If any discrepancies emerge during document scrutiny, the owner must furnish fresh surety

Investigation and Political Reactions

Initial investigations were complicated by the circumstances surrounding the crash. CCTV footage showed Shivam Mishra's bouncers exiting a black SUV and rushing toward the Lamborghini to extract the driver immediately after the accident. Multiple videos from the incident site and eyewitness accounts confirmed Shivam was behind the wheel.

Initially, police registered an FIR against unidentified persons. Shivam's name was added to the case only after political reactions surfaced. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed officials to take stern action in response to the incident, highlighting the case's sensitivity.

Concerns About Disparity in Police Action

While the Lamborghini has been released, concerns have emerged about unequal treatment in the case. Vishal Tripathi, one of the injured parties, has raised objections about his damaged motorcycle remaining in police custody despite repeated follow-ups.

Tripathi's motorcycle was struck by the Lamborghini during the crash, yet it has not been released even as the luxury car has been returned to its owner. This disparity highlights ongoing questions about procedural fairness in high-profile cases involving wealthy individuals.

The case continues to draw attention as legal proceedings progress and authorities scrutinize the circumstances of the February crash that disrupted a busy Kanpur thoroughfare.
