Kanpur Dowry Horror: Retired Railway Clerk Father-in-Law Brutally Assaults Daughter-in-Law
A deeply disturbing case of alleged dowry-related cruelty has surfaced in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, after a video capturing the violent assault of a woman by her father-in-law went viral across social media platforms. The footage shows the victim screaming for help while bystanders appear too frightened to intervene, highlighting a grim reality of domestic violence in the region.
Systematic Harassment and Dowry Demands
According to detailed accounts, the victim, a woman originally from Prayagraj, was married in 2020 to Himanshu Dubey, a resident of Kanpur's Anand Nagar area. Himanshu works as an IT manager at a shoe company, while his father, Sushil Dubey, retired from a clerk position in the railway department. The victim has alleged that her in-laws, including Sushil Dubey, mother-in-law Rama, brother-in-law Abhishek, and sister-in-law Shruti, have subjected her to relentless harassment since her marriage.
The core of the conflict revolves around exorbitant dowry demands, with the family allegedly insisting on 2 bigha of land and Rs 20 lakh in cash. Whenever the victim protested or refused to meet these demands, she claims she faced severe beatings, verbal abuse, and sustained mental torture, creating an atmosphere of fear and oppression.
The Violent Incident and Viral Video
The situation escalated dramatically a few days ago when the victim returned to her in-laws' house after visiting her maternal home. Accompanied by her brother Rishikesh Pandey and sister-in-law Preeti Pandey, she knocked on the door around 2 pm on Friday. Upon entering, she alleges that Sushil Dubey immediately flew into a rage, hurling abuses and launching an unprovoked attack.
The assault was particularly brutal, with the father-in-law reportedly pinning her to the ground and beating her with kicks and punches. She further claims he tore her clothes and attacked her private parts, actions that have drawn widespread condemnation. When her sister-in-law and neighbors attempted to intervene, Sushil Dubey allegedly threatened to kill them as well, exacerbating the terror of the situation.
In a harrowing detail, the victim stated that Sushil Dubey grabbed her by the hair and dragged her from inside the house onto the street, where she continued to scream, "Save me... they will kill me." Shockingly, her five-year-old daughter was present in the house and witnessed the entire assault, adding to the psychological trauma.

Following the incident, the victim filed a police complaint, but initial reports suggest no concrete action was taken immediately.
