Kanpur Implements Traffic Diversions for Ganga Mela at Sarsaiya Ghat

The district administration and traffic department in Kanpur have announced comprehensive traffic restrictions and diversions in preparation for the upcoming Ganga Mela scheduled to take place at Sarsaiya Ghat on Tuesday. These measures are designed to ensure smooth movement and safety for the large number of devotees and visitors expected to attend the religious event.

Traffic Diversion Timings and Key Routes Affected

The traffic diversions will be enforced from 8 am until the conclusion of the mela. Authorities have outlined specific routes that will be closed or redirected to manage the influx of vehicles and pedestrians.

Major Route Closures:

  • Vehicles will be prohibited from moving from Meghdoot trisection towards Sarsaiya Ghat. Instead, traffic will be diverted to Bada Chauraha Kotwali crossing.
  • Movement from Green Park to Sarsaiya Ghat will not be permitted. Vehicles from this direction will be rerouted from MG College crossing to Muir Mill trisection, then to Bada Chauraha and Chetna crossing, passing through Vyayamshala to reach Meghdoot trisection.
  • Vehicular movement between Chetna crossing and Sarsaiya Ghat will remain restricted throughout the event.

Alternative Routes and Parking Facilities

To accommodate the diverted traffic, alternative pathways have been established. Traffic will be directed to the right side, allowing movement from Bhagwat Das Ghat to Sarsaiya Ghat. Vehicles from Bhagwat Das Ghat will be diverted towards Meghdoot trisection and then proceed towards Bada Chauraha crossing.

Parking arrangements have been meticulously planned to prevent congestion and provide convenience for visitors:

  1. Vehicles arriving from Meghdoot trisection and heading to the mela site can utilize the Phoolbagh underground parking facility.
  2. Those coming from Chetna crossing to Sarsaiya Ghat are advised to park at the GNK College ground.
  3. Vehicles approaching from Green Park crossing can be parked inside Green Park or on the footpath of VIP Road.
  4. Media personnel have been allocated parking space in front of the office of the executive engineer, PWD.
  5. A dedicated VVIP parking area has been set up from the women police station to the district jail.

The administration emphasizes that these measures are crucial for maintaining order and safety during the Ganga Mela, urging all residents and visitors to cooperate and plan their travel accordingly.
