Kanpur Police Crack Idol Theft Case, Recover Stolen Goods Worth Rs 10 Lakh
In a swift and efficient operation, the Kanpur police have successfully solved a high-value idol theft case that occurred in the Naubasta area, recovering stolen goods worth Rs 10 lakh within just 48 hours. The incident took place on March 5, a day after the Holi festival, when thieves targeted a shop located near the local police station.
Details of the Theft Incident
The theft occurred when the shop owner had briefly stepped away to his house situated behind the shop. Two individuals arrived at the scene, with one standing guard outside on a motorcycle while the other entered the premises. The intruder packed six idols along with other valuable items into a polybag before fleeing on the bike with his accomplice.
This brazen act took place in a bustling area, highlighting the audacity of the criminals. The shop, which specializes in selling idols, was left vulnerable during the owner's absence, allowing the thieves to execute their plan swiftly.
Police Investigation and Arrests
Upon receiving the complaint, the Naubasta Station House Officer (SHO) immediately formed three dedicated teams to investigate the case. Utilizing CCTV footage and other forensic evidence, the teams tracked the movements of the suspects, leading to a breakthrough within two days.
The thieves were identified as Vivek Dixit and Shivprasad. During interrogation, they confessed to their crime and revealed that they had sold the stolen idols to a man named Anil, who resides in the Gajner area of Kanpur Dehat. Based on this information, the police arrested Anil as well, making him an accused in the case.
All three individuals—Vivek Dixit, Shivprasad, and Anil—were subsequently arrested and sent to jail. The police recovered all the stolen idols and items, ensuring that the shop owner's losses were fully mitigated.

Further investigation uncovered that one of the accused had a prior criminal record related to gambling. The police conducted a detailed probe into the criminal histories of all involved to ensure comprehensive justice.
