Kanpur Man Files Police Complaint Against Wife Over Alleged Forced Conversion Attempt
A distressing case of marital discord has emerged from the Rawatpur area of Kanpur, where a Hindu man has lodged a formal police complaint against his Muslim wife. The complainant alleges that his spouse attempted to coerce him into converting to her religion, a situation that escalated until she reportedly left their marital home with their infant child and valuable possessions.
Details of the Allegations and the Marriage
The man stated that he entered into the interfaith marriage in 2023 based on a mutual understanding that neither partner would pressure the other to change their religious beliefs. According to his account, the relationship was harmonious initially, but his wife's demeanor began to shift gradually over time.
He claims that shortly after their wedding, influenced by her parents, she started persistently urging him to convert to Islam. This pressure allegedly became a constant source of conflict within the household, as he firmly resisted these demands.
Escalation Following the Birth of Their Son
The situation reportedly intensified after the birth of their son on August 26, 2025. The husband alleges that his wife insisted on having the child circumcised, a practice associated with Islamic tradition. He further accuses her parents of joining in this pressure campaign, even threatening him with false legal charges if he did not comply with their wishes regarding the child's religious rites.
The final breaking point, as per the complaint, occurred on January 16. The man alleges that his wife, accompanied by her mother, left their home. She reportedly took their young son, along with a significant amount of cash and jewellery, and retreated to her parental residence.
Police Response and Ongoing Investigation
Following the husband's formal complaint, the Kanpur Police have taken cognizance of the matter. A case has been registered against the woman and her parents based on the allegations presented.
ACP (Kalyanpur) Ashutosh Kumar confirmed the police action, stating, "A case has been filed based on the husband's complaint, and further investigation is ongoing. Actions will be taken according to the evidence found."
The investigation is now underway to verify the claims made by the complainant. Authorities are examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged forced conversion attempts, the threats, and the departure of the wife with the child and valuables. The case highlights the complex and sensitive issues that can sometimes arise in interfaith marriages, especially concerning religious identity and familial pressure.
