Kanpur Police Encounter Leads to Arrest of Murder Accused, Constable Injured
In a dramatic early morning operation, Kanpur police successfully apprehended an absconding murder suspect following a violent encounter near Goojarpura Pamaran village on the Badaun road. The incident, which unfolded in the early hours of Thursday, resulted in injuries to a police constable during the exchange of gunfire.
Police Action Based on Intelligence Tip-Off
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, Station House Officer Raksha Singh led a police team to cordon off the targeted area. Upon spotting the police presence, the accused, identified as Surjeet Yadav alias Nanhanku, immediately opened fire in a desperate attempt to evade capture.
During the ensuing confrontation, Constable Waseem sustained injuries while attempting to dodge the incoming bullets. In a retaliatory response, police personnel returned fire, striking Surjeet Yadav. Both the injured constable and the wounded accused were promptly transported to Rajepur Community Health Center for medical treatment.
Background of the Murder Case
Additional Superintendent of Police Arun Kumar Singh revealed that Surjeet Yadav had been evading authorities since his alleged involvement in the murder of Omveer Rathour, a local bicycle mechanic. The police investigation into this homicide case had previously led to disciplinary action against two officers for negligence.
Former Station House Officer Monu Shakya and Investigating Sub-Inspector Ravi Solanki were suspended from duty for their failure to make progress in solving the murder investigation.
Recovery of Weapons and Evidence
Following the encounter, police conducted a thorough search and recovered significant evidence from the scene:
- A country-made pistol
- Two empty cartridge shells
- Three live cartridges
These items were seized from Surjeet Yadav's possession, providing crucial material evidence for the ongoing investigation.
