In a joint operation, the Kotwali police, along with the Agra Special Task Force (STF) unit, arrested a notorious gangster identified as Surendra from COD Ground, Thana Sadar in Agra. Surendra, who carried a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head, was wanted in multiple cases of theft and robbery on trains.
Details of the Arrest
DCP East Satyajit Gupta confirmed on Friday that Surendra, a resident of Ashraf Garhi, Jind, Haryana, had eight criminal cases registered against him. He was previously sent to jail in 2019 by the Government Railway Police (GRP) under the Gangsters Act. However, in 2020, he managed to secure bail through fake sureties in the Gangster Court and had been absconding since then. The police brought Surendra to Kanpur on Friday and produced him before the court in the afternoon, after which he was sent to jail.
Exposure of Fake Bail Syndicate
Gupta further revealed that the Kanpur Police had successfully exposed a syndicate that facilitated the release of criminals from jail on bail using fake sureties and forged documents. Two individuals, Natthu and Santosh, residents of Shivdin Purwa, Bithoor, were arrested and sent to jail for their involvement in securing bail for prisoners by providing sureties using forged documents in exchange for money.
Named First Information Reports (FIRs) were registered against 73 people involved in the syndicate, including Surendra, who was also released on bail through fraudulent means. Following his abscondence, the court issued a non-bailable warrant against Surendra and announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for his capture.
