Kanpur: Police have successfully busted a gang that specialized in targeting locked houses across different police station areas, committing thefts by entering through rooftops. Five accused were arrested, including three juvenile offenders, in connection with theft incidents reported about 20 days ago in Maswanpur under the limits of Rawatpur police station and about 10 days ago near Sarai Chauraha in the Kalyanpur police station limits.
The arrests were made based on CCTV footage, surveillance, and other crucial clues. During interrogation, police learned that the juvenile offenders identified locked houses, entered via rooftops, and stole jewellery by breaking lockers of almirahs. Stolen jewellery was recovered from the possession of the arrested accused. Police stated that efforts are ongoing to arrest the absconding accused.
Further investigation revealed that the juvenile offenders had been previously involved in theft incidents. All arrested accused will be produced before the court. For the successful resolution of the case, the police team was rewarded with a prize of Rs 25,000 by the Deputy Commissioner of Police West SM Qasim Abidi.
