In a major crackdown on illicit activities, the Kanpur police busted a sex racket operating from a hotel in the Rawatpur area of the city. During the raid conducted on Wednesday, three women and eight men were arrested, including the alleged kingpin of the racket.
Details of the Raid
The raid was led by Kalyanpur police station in-charge Sumedh Milind Jadhav and ACP (Kalyanpur) Ashutosh Kumar. Acting on a tip-off, the police team swooped down on a hotel located in Vinayakpur, Rawatpur. The sudden raid created a commotion at the spot, but the police managed to apprehend all suspects without any untoward incident.
Blackmailing Racket Uncovered
According to police officials, the sex racket was not only involved in prostitution but also in blackmailing customers. During the search, several incriminating items were recovered from the hotel premises, including a charger and a hidden camera. This suggests that the accused were recording videos of their customers and later using them to extort money.
ACP Ashutosh Kumar confirmed that eight men, including the mastermind of the racket, and three women have been taken into custody. The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act. Further investigation is underway, and the accused are being interrogated to uncover the full extent of the network.
Police Action and Next Steps
The police have assured that strict action will be taken against all those involved. The arrested individuals are being questioned to identify other associates and potential victims. The hotel management is also under scrutiny for their role in facilitating the illegal activities.
This operation is part of a broader drive by the Kanpur police to clean up the city and curb illegal activities. Citizens have been urged to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
