Kanpur Police Crack Down on Tech-Savvy Burglary Gang Using Drones for Surveillance
In a significant breakthrough, the Bithoor police and surveillance team in Kanpur have successfully dismantled a sophisticated burglary gang that employed modern technology to commit crimes. The operation led to the arrest of three brothers, including the alleged mastermind, following a daring break-in at a policeman's residence where jewellery and cash valued at over Rs 15 lakh were stolen on November 3, 2025.
Arrests Made Near Pem Village Factory
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) SM Qasim Abidi confirmed that the zone's crime branch, in collaboration with the Bithoor police station, apprehended the trio near a factory located in Pem village. The accused individuals have been identified as Mukesh Rajput, his brother Aakash Rajput, and their cousin Manoj Kumar, who also goes by the aliases Suraj and Dhilla. According to Abidi, the gang utilized drones to conduct reconnaissance of houses before executing their burglaries, showcasing a tech-savvy approach to criminal activities.
Details of the Burglary at Policeman's House
The targeted burglary occurred at the home of Chandrashekhar Jatav, a policeman stationed at Fatehgarh's salary disbursement office. Originally hailing from Fattepur Shivli in Kanpur Dehat, Jatav had been residing in Bagdaudhi Kachhar with his family for the past three years. His daughter, Dr. Shilpi, serves as a professor at GSVM Medical College in Kanpur. The timing of the theft was particularly poignant, as it coincided with Dr. Shilpi's wedding on November 3, 2025. The family had locked their house and moved to a guest house for the celebrations.
Late that night, a neighbor named Narendra Saini returned home from the guest house and noticed the broken lock on Chandrashekhar's main door. He promptly alerted the family, leading to police intervention and an immediate investigation. The victim reported that thieves had stolen Rs 7.75 lakh from a safe and jewellery belonging to his wife, Kanti Devi, valued at approximately Rs 7.5 lakh, resulting in a total loss exceeding Rs 15 lakh.
Gang's Criminal Activities and Asset Acquisitions
Following the initial theft, police investigations revealed that the accused purchased an old car for Rs 2 lakh and proceeded to commit two additional burglaries in Kanpur and Kannauj. Further probe uncovered that the gang had used stolen funds to acquire significant assets, including two plots and a house in Shivli Shekhpur Baghpur, Kanpur Dehat, with a combined worth of over Rs 70 lakh. The gang, consisting of two brothers and their cousin, originally hailed from Mainpuri and frequently shifted between locations such as Makdikheda, Mandhana in Bithoor, and Shivli Baghpur Shekhpur in Kanpur Dehat, where they constructed a house and purchased the plots using illicit gains.
Criminal Records of the Accused
DCP Abidi disclosed the extensive criminal histories of the arrested individuals. Mukesh Rajput has five cases registered against him, while Aakash Rajput faces eleven cases, and Manoj Kumar has four cases. This highlights the gang's persistent involvement in criminal activities prior to their latest apprehension.
The successful crackdown by Kanpur police underscores their commitment to combating tech-enhanced crimes and bringing perpetrators to justice, ensuring community safety in the region.
