Kanpur: In a shocking incident, police exhumed the body of a 41-year-old woman from a grave in Beconganj on Saturday following allegations of murder by her family. The body has been sent for postmortem, with authorities stating that further action will be taken once the cause of death is determined.
Background of the Case
The deceased, identified as Nisha Kausar, was buried ten days prior to the exhumation. Her mother, Shakila, a resident of Anwarganj, has accused her son-in-law Intezar Ahmad, a tailor living on Rizvi Road, of killing her daughter. Shakila's suspicions were aroused when her six-year-old granddaughter revealed that her father had beaten Nisha and later electrocuted her.
Marriage and Family Details
According to Shakila, Nisha Kausar was married to Intezar Ahmad 19 years ago. The couple had four children: Imran, Zeeshan, Arbia, and Adeeba. Shakila alleged that Intezar had been harassing Nisha for some time after the marriage, creating a tense domestic environment.
The Incident and Initial Claims
On the night of May 26, Shakila received a call from her in-laws, who claimed that Nisha had died after coming into contact with a current that leaked into the refrigerator. The body was buried on the morning of May 27 at the Bakarmandi graveyard. However, Shakila's doubts grew after speaking with her granddaughter.
Child's Account
The six-year-old Arbia told her grandmother that on the day of the incident, her father beat her mother and banged her head against the wall. She further stated that he then killed her by electrocuting her with a wire. Distressed by this revelation, Shakila wrote letters to the Police Commissioner, District Magistrate, and Chief Medical Officer demanding justice.
Police Action
On Saturday, Beckanganj police exhumed the body from the grave, ensuring videography of the entire process, and sent it for postmortem examination. Inspector Mohd. Mateen Khan of Beconganj stated, “To ascertain the real cause of the woman’s death, the body is being exhumed from the grave and a postmortem is being conducted. Action will be taken on the basis of the postmortem report and the complaint.”
The investigation is ongoing, and the police are awaiting the postmortem results to determine the exact cause of death.
