Kanpur Police Unearth Cash-Filled Videos in Major Kidney Racket Probe

In a significant development in the ongoing illegal kidney transplant case, Kanpur police have recovered a video showing Dr Afzal, a key accused, and his driver Parvez Saifi lying on a bed surrounded by bundles of cash amounting to nearly Rs20 lakh. The clip was discovered on the mobile phones of ambulance driver Shivam Agarwal and other individuals implicated in the investigation.

Multiple Videos Reveal Extensive Criminal Activities

During the probe, authorities recovered seven short videos that provide crucial evidence. Among these are two clips where accused Shivam Agarwal is seen posing as a doctor, and two others showing patients, including a South African woman who underwent a kidney transplant. Another video features an elderly man from Amritsar, who was allegedly defrauded in the name of a transplant. Investigators stated that operators of Ahuja Hospital swindled him out of Rs43 lakh.

The video depicting Dr Afzal and Parvez Saifi playing with cash bundles strongly suggests they accumulated crores through the kidney racket. Police revealed that Saifi transported kidney seller Ayush, buyer Parul, and Dr Afzal to the city on four separate occasions for transplants. Saifi, who enticed unsuspecting individuals into the scheme, purchased kidneys from them and sold them for exorbitant sums ranging between Rs90 lakh and Rs1 crore.

Police Statements and Ongoing Investigation

DCP, west, SM Qasim Abidi commented, "A video showing bundles of currency notes has gone viral on social media, in which accused Afzal and his associate Parvez Saifi are visible." The investigation has so far indicated that all involved parties operated as an organized gang or syndicate, engaging in criminal activities under this framework.

While some accused have already been arrested, police teams are conducting raids to apprehend the remaining individuals. Authorities noted that about six to seven accused are currently absconding, and efforts are underway to ensure their early arrest. The police plan to soon file an application in court to seek custody remand for all accused, including a doctor couple caught in the illegal kidney buying, selling, and transplant racket.

Broker Shivam Agrawal has been identified as a crucial figure in the case, accused of luring people and extorting lakhs of rupees from them under the guise of arranging kidneys. This revelation underscores the depth and complexity of the syndicate's operations, which have exploited vulnerable individuals for substantial financial gain.
