Kanpur police are set to dispatch teams to the National Capital Region (NCR) to track down six absconding suspects involved in a kidney transplant racket. Senior officials confirmed that two separate units of the Commissionerate Police will coordinate with NCR police authorities to conduct raids and arrest the fugitives.
The absconding accused have been identified as Dr Afzal, Dr Vaibhav, Dr Kaif, Dr Anurag, Naveen Pandey, and Shivam Yadav. According to officials, these individuals frequently traveled by air and used routes via Lucknow to reach Kanpur. Police have also received intelligence that some of them stayed at hotels in the Harbanshmohaal and Kotwali areas.
The racket came to light after a kidney transplant procedure, allegedly linked to the illegal network, was performed on March 29 at Ahuja Hospital in Keshavpuram. Police reported that Parul Tomar received a kidney transplant using the organ of Ayush. Following the incident, Rawatpur police registered an FIR and arrested several individuals, including Dr Surjit Singh Ahuja, Dr Preeti Ahuja, Shivam Aggarwal, Rajesh Kumar, Ram Prakash Kushwaha, Narendra Singh, Rohit Tiwari, Kuldeep Singh Raghav, Rajesh Tomar, and Parvez Saifi. All of them have been sent to jail. Another accused, Mudassar Ali, who had been evading arrest, later surrendered before the court.
Station officer Kamlesh Rai stated that investigation teams are actively pursuing leads and conducting raids to apprehend the remaining suspects. The police are leaving no stone unturned to bring all involved to justice.
Background of the Racket
The kidney transplant racket has raised serious concerns about illegal organ trade in the region. Authorities are investigating how the accused managed to operate undetected for so long. The involvement of medical professionals in the case has shocked the local community.
Police Operations and Coordination
The Kanpur police teams will collaborate closely with their counterparts in NCR to ensure the swift capture of the fugitives. Raids are planned at multiple locations based on intelligence inputs. The police have also alerted airports and railway stations to prevent the suspects from fleeing.
Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
