Kanpur Scientist Assaulted by Woman and Daughters Over Video Recording Allegations
A shocking incident unfolded in Kanpur on Saturday when a woman and her two daughters allegedly beat up a forensic scientist with shoes and slippers. The altercation occurred at Ghatampur tehsil, where the woman had arrived for a hearing in a long-standing land dispute case.
Allegations of Video Recording Spark Violent Confrontation
The woman, whose husband works as a Group-D employee in the Railways and is currently posted in Bhopal, stated that she was at the tehsil with her daughters for a court hearing regarding a land dispute with a person named Kailash. During this time, Santosh Kureel, a senior scientist posted in the forensic department in Jhansi, arrived at the location to assist Kailash.
The woman alleged that Santosh began making videos of her daughters without their consent. When she objected to this invasive recording, the situation quickly escalated. According to her account, Santosh responded by abusing her verbally and then physically slapping her. This prompted the woman and her daughters to retaliate, leading to the physical assault with footwear.
Police Intervention and Investigation Details
Upon receiving information about the disturbance, police personnel promptly arrived at the scene. They brought both parties to the Ghatampur police station for questioning and to prevent further violence. A video recording of the entire incident has also surfaced, adding visual evidence to the claims.
Inspector Dinesh Singh Bisht, who is leading the investigation, confirmed that they received a report about an assault. "The person concerned had come to the tehsil to file a complaint and at that time he was also showing videos of the daughters," Bisht stated. He emphasized that the matter is under active investigation and further legal action will be determined based on the formal complaints received.
Deeper Allegations of Past Harassment and Case Tampering
The woman made additional serious allegations against Santosh Kureel during the police interrogation. She claimed that Santosh had raped her for nearly two years under the pretext of helping with the land matter. Furthermore, she alleged that he, along with associates Kailash and Avdhesh, had gang-raped her on one occasion.
A case regarding these sexual assault allegations was previously registered at the Ghatampur police station. The woman underwent a medical examination, and her blood sample was sent to the forensic lab in Lucknow for DNA testing. However, she asserted that during the investigation, the envelope containing the sample was found open, the DNA report was tampered with, and a final report was filed in the case, effectively closing it.
The woman also accused Santosh of continuously pressuring her to abandon the civil case, which she believes is connected to these broader allegations of misconduct.
Scientist's Identity and Attempted Intimidation
During the police proceedings, Santosh Kureel initially attempted to mislead authorities about his posting, claiming he was stationed in Kannauj. When Inspector Bisht pressed for verification and requested to see his credentials, Santosh admitted he is actually a senior scientist in the forensic department in Jhansi, revealing his true identity.
Additionally, the woman reported that as police were escorting Santosh to the station, he tried to intimidate them by falsely claiming to be an additional Superintendent of Police. This attempt at deception has raised further questions about his conduct and intentions.
The police are continuing their investigation into all aspects of this complex case, including the assault, the allegations of video recording, and the historical claims of sexual violence and evidence tampering.
