Kanpur Temple Robbery: Seven Silver Crowns Worth Rs 3 Lakh Stolen from Siddhi Vinayak Temple

In a brazen act of theft that has shocked the local community, seven precious silver crowns valued at approximately Rs 3 lakh were stolen from the historic Siddhi Vinayak Temple located at Ghantaghar Chowk in Kanpur. The incident occurred on Saturday, with temple authorities discovering the loss in the evening hours.

CCTV Footage Reveals Suspects

Closed-circuit television recordings from the temple premises have provided crucial evidence in the case. The footage clearly shows a man walking away with the seven silver crowns around 9:48 am on Saturday. Interestingly, the suspect was not alone—he was accompanied by a woman and a child, adding a disturbing dimension to the crime.

Sudhir Gupta, the temple trustee who made the discovery, immediately reviewed the security recordings after noticing the missing crowns. "When I arrived at the temple on Saturday evening, I was horrified to find that crowns from seven of our eight Lord Ganesh idols on the second floor had been stolen," Gupta recounted.

Police Investigation Launched

The temple caretaker promptly filed an official complaint with the Harbansh Mohal police station, triggering an immediate investigation. Law enforcement officials have confirmed they are actively pursuing leads in the case.

According to Gupta's statement to police, the theft appears to have been carefully planned. "The temple priest's two-day absence gave the thief the perfect opportunity to strike," Gupta explained. "It seems the perpetrator had cased the place earlier and knew exactly when to execute the robbery."

Police Confident of Breakthrough

The station in-charge at Harbansh Mohal police station expressed confidence about solving the case quickly. "Our team is diligently working on all available evidence, including the CCTV footage," the official stated. "We expect to apprehend the suspect soon and recover the stolen property."

The theft has raised serious concerns about security at religious institutions in the area. The silver crowns, which adorned the idols of Lord Ganesh, held both religious significance and substantial monetary value.

Local devotees have expressed outrage over the incident, calling for enhanced security measures at places of worship. The police have assured the community that they are treating the case with utmost priority and are exploring all possible angles to identify and capture those responsible for this sacrilegious act.
