Kanpur Woman Gets Death Threats After Molestation Complaint

A 25-year-old private bank employee in Kanpur has alleged that she is receiving death threats on social media after posting a video and filing a police complaint accusing a man of molesting her during an e-rickshaw ride in the city's Beconganj area.

Incident Details

The woman claimed that a few days ago, while returning home from work, a middle-aged man allegedly touched her inappropriately during the journey. She later recorded and shared a video on social media narrating the incident, which quickly went viral and sparked widespread reactions online.

Police Action

Following the circulation of the video, Kanpur Police contacted the woman and registered an FIR at Beconganj police station on Thursday under relevant sections related to harassment and other offences based on her written complaint.

Threats Received

On Friday, the woman alleged that after posting the video and lodging the FIR, she began receiving threatening messages through social media platforms. She claimed some users had threatened to kill her and warned of violent consequences.

Speaking to reporters, she said she would not be intimidated by the threats and would continue to pursue the matter legally.

Police Response

Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Headquarters) Sankalp Sharma said police took immediate cognisance of the allegations and registered a case after receiving the complaint. He said efforts were underway to identify and arrest the accused, while further legal proceedings were continuing.
