Tragic Morning Walk Ends in Fatal Accident

A 55-year-old woman lost her life in a devastating road accident in Kanpur on Saturday morning. The incident occurred near the FCI warehouse in Shyam Nagar area when a truck driver attempting to overtake another vehicle crushed the pedestrian.

The deceased was identified as Daraksha Khatoon, wife of Saleem Ahmad from Sujatganj. She operated a boutique shop near the warehouse and was the mother of three children—Nadeem, Aamir and Afsha.

Details of the Fatal Incident

According to family members, Daraksha had stepped out for her regular morning walk when the tragic accident occurred. The truck driver, while trying to overtake another vehicle, lost control and hit the woman, resulting in fatal injuries.

Saleem Ahmad, the grieving husband, confirmed that his wife was on her daily morning routine when the unfortunate incident took place. The body was subsequently sent for postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Public Outrage and Official Response

Angered by the recurring accidents in the area, local residents expressed their fury by pelting stones at the truck and creating significant disturbance. The protesters demanded an immediate ban on truck movement in residential areas and adequate compensation for the victim's family.

Senior police officials including ADCP (East) Anjali Vishwakarma responded promptly to the situation. The police team, accompanied by forces from four police stations, managed to control the escalating situation.

SP MLA Mohammad Hasan Rumi also visited the accident site to assess the situation. ADCP Vishwakarma assured the public that discussions would be held with FCI officials regarding the regulation of truck movement in the area and compensation for the victim's kin.

The incident has highlighted the ongoing concerns about road safety and uncontrolled truck movement in residential neighborhoods of Kanpur, raising serious questions about urban planning and traffic management.
