Kanpur Woman's Tragic Suicide Echoes Husband's Death Two Years Later
In a heartbreaking incident that has shocked the Dabauli community in Kanpur, a 37-year-old woman died by suicide on Monday afternoon, using the same hook where her husband had taken his own life exactly two years ago. Police identified the deceased as Anjali Verma, whose body was discovered hanging in her family home.
Police and Forensic Response
Upon receiving the distress call, police officials and a forensic team rushed to the scene at the two-storey residence in Dabauli village. The team carefully removed Anjali's body from the noose and transported it for a thorough postmortem examination to determine the exact circumstances surrounding her death.
Family Structure and Discovery
The Verma family home houses multiple generations. Snehlata Verma, the family matriarch, resides on the second floor. Her younger son Vijay Raj lives on the ground floor with his wife Deepali and their daughter Lado. The first floor was occupied by Anjali Verma, the elder daughter-in-law, along with her children Adrika and Rakshit.
According to Vijay Raj's statement to authorities, the tragic discovery unfolded when most family members were away from home. The children had left for school, Snehlata had visited her sister in Barra, and Vijay himself had gone to work, leaving only Anjali and Deepali in the house.
Deepali became concerned when she went to hang laundry on the terrace and found the door locked from inside. After repeated knocking failed to elicit any response, she grew alarmed and contacted Vijay, who immediately alerted the police.
Police Entry and Investigation Findings
Responding officers gained access to the terrace through a neighboring property, forced open the locked door, and discovered Anjali's body suspended from a noose fashioned from a dupatta (traditional scarf).
During their investigation, police learned from family members that Anjali had been operating an e-auto rickshaw through a hired driver. Tragically, just five days before her death, the vehicle had been involved in a serious accident on the highway, causing Anjali significant distress and worry.
Inspector Abhay Singh confirmed the historical parallel, stating, "The woman's husband had also committed suicide at the same location exactly two years ago, making this a doubly tragic case for the family."
