Karnataka Eid Raid: 54kg Meat Seized, Beef Alleged

Karnataka Police Seize 54 Kilograms of Meat During Eid Raid Following Beef Sale Allegations

In a controversial incident in Gangavathi, Koppal district, police authorities conducted a raid on Eid, March 21, resulting in the seizure of approximately 54 kilograms of meat. The operation has sparked significant debate after the Hindu Jagaran Vedike (HJV) organization claimed that the confiscated meat was beef, demanding immediate legal action against those responsible.

Police Raid Details and Seizure

The raid was executed by a police team led by Inspector Prakash Mali, who were assigned to Eid bandobast duty. Acting on specific intelligence provided by HJV activists regarding alleged illegal beef sales, officers targeted a tin shed situated near Huma School in the HRS colony on Saturday.

During a thorough inspection of the premises, law enforcement officials discovered not only the substantial quantity of meat but also knives utilized for cutting, a weighing machine, and various other equipment associated with meat processing. To ensure proper procedure, police summoned veterinary officer Dr. Niranjan from Sangapur and municipal authorities to the site.

In the presence of these officials, the 54kg of meat was formally seized, and a case was registered. Authorities collected 3kg of the meat as samples for laboratory testing to determine its exact nature. The individuals allegedly involved in the sale have fled the scene and are currently absconding.

Legal Action and Allegations

A formal case has been filed against the shed owner, identified as Allahbakhshi, under the stringent Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Preservation Act, 2020. The police team included Assistant Sub-Inspector Shivasharan and personnel Ramesh, Mahesh, Raghavendra, among others.

Inspector Prakash Mali stated that the confiscated meat samples will be dispatched for comprehensive testing, with further legal measures to be initiated based on the laboratory results. This step is crucial to ascertain whether the meat is indeed beef, which would constitute a violation of state law.

Hindu Jagaran Vedike's Response and Demands

Reacting strongly to the incident, Srikant Hoskera, co-convener of the HJV Karnataka North region, leveled serious allegations. He asserted that despite multiple previous raids and registered cases at the same location, illegal meat activities have persisted there.

Hoskera further alleged that unlawful beef sales are occurring at several other spots within the city, calling for stringent and decisive action against all such establishments to curb this practice. The HJV's demands highlight ongoing tensions and vigilance regarding cow slaughter laws in the region.

This raid underscores the ongoing enforcement of cattle preservation legislation in Karnataka and the heightened scrutiny during religious festivals. The community awaits the laboratory findings, which will determine the next steps in this legally and socially sensitive case.
