Karnataka Govt Forms 'Rowdy Squads' in Every Police Circle

The Karnataka government has announced the formation of dedicated 'rowdy squads' in every police circle across the state. This initiative aims to enhance surveillance and control over anti-social elements and habitual offenders.

Squad Composition and Supervision

Each rowdy squad within a police circle will operate under the direct supervision of the respective circle inspector. In addition, a separate station-level rowdy squad shall be constituted at police stations, headed by an inspector. This two-tier structure is designed to ensure comprehensive coverage and effective monitoring of criminal activities at both the circle and station levels.

Objectives and Responsibilities

The primary objective of these squads is to maintain a strict watch on known rowdies and prevent potential crimes. They will be responsible for collecting intelligence, conducting regular checks, and taking preventive action against individuals with a history of criminal behavior. The move is part of the state's broader strategy to improve law and order and enhance public safety.

Senior police officials have been directed to ensure the squads are operational immediately and to report on their effectiveness periodically. The government has emphasized the importance of community cooperation in assisting these squads with information about suspicious activities.

This decision comes amid growing concerns over rising incidents of crime in certain areas. By establishing specialized units, the Karnataka Police aims to strengthen its response to law and order challenges and reassure citizens of their safety.
