The Karnataka Lokayukta police arrested a driver of a Karnataka Administrative Service (KAS) officer on charges of accepting a bribe of Rs 30 lakh. The arrest was made following a trap laid by the anti-corruption agency after receiving a complaint from a businessman.
Details of the Trap
The accused, identified as Shivaraj, was working as a driver for KAS officer Ramesh. According to Lokayukta sources, the complainant, a real estate developer, had sought help from the officer to resolve a land dispute. The officer allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 30 lakh to facilitate the process.
How the Trap Was Executed
The developer approached the Lokayukta, who verified the complaint and set up a trap. The accused driver was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe amount near the officer's residence in Bengaluru. Lokayukta officials said that the driver was acting on behalf of the officer.
Legal Proceedings
Shivaraj has been taken into custody and will be produced before a special court. Further investigation is ongoing, and the role of the KAS officer is being examined. The Lokayukta has warned that strict action will be taken against anyone involved in corrupt practices.
