Chandigarh Administrator Lays Foundation for Two Modern Police Stations

Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria on Tuesday inaugurated the construction of two state-of-the-art police stations in the city's rapidly developing areas. The foundation stone-laying ceremony marked a significant step toward enhancing law enforcement infrastructure in Chandigarh, with facilities planned at IT Park and Mauli Jagran.

Investment and Land Allocation for New Police Infrastructure

The IT Park police station will be constructed on 0.366 acres of land with an estimated budget of Rs 9.81 crore. In contrast, the Mauli Jagran police station will occupy a larger plot of 0.789 acres at a cost of Rs 19.51 crore. Together, these projects represent a substantial investment of nearly Rs 29.32 crore in modernizing policing capabilities across the city.

Comprehensive Modern Facilities Planned

Both police stations will be equipped with a wide range of contemporary amenities designed to improve operational efficiency and public service. Key features include:

  • Dedicated women help desks to address gender-specific concerns
  • Separate lock-up facilities and barracks for male and female detainees
  • Specialized interrogation rooms for investigations
  • Secure malkhana (property room) and armoury sections
  • Conference halls for meetings and briefings
  • Canteen facilities for staff and visitors
  • Ample parking areas for vehicles
  • Barrier-free access ensuring full accessibility for persons with disabilities

Both buildings will incorporate comprehensive fire safety systems to ensure maximum security.

Notably, both police stations will be constructed as green structures with environmentally sustainable features including:

Administrator's Vision for Future-Ready Policing

Addressing the gathering, Governor Kataria emphasized that these projects align with the Administration's broader vision of "Future-Ready Chandigarh 2030 and Beyond." He highlighted the commitment to creating citizen-centric, responsive, and modern policing systems that can effectively serve the community.

"Effective policing is fundamental to the overall growth and development of a city," Kataria stated, expressing confidence that the new facilities would significantly enhance the performance and capabilities of the Chandigarh Police force.

Addressing Drug Abuse and Building Public Trust

During his address, the Administrator specifically identified drug abuse as a major challenge affecting both Chandigarh and Punjab. He called for innovative and stronger measures to effectively tackle this social menace through coordinated law enforcement efforts.

Kataria further explained that the new police stations would contribute to multiple policing improvements:

  • Reduced emergency response times through strategic location
  • Strengthened community policing initiatives
  • Enhanced public trust in police through modern, accessible facilities
  • Overall contribution to creating a safer urban environment in Chandigarh

The infrastructure development represents a concrete step toward realizing these objectives while addressing the evolving security needs of the city's expanding areas.
