In a significant crackdown, the Kaushambi police have successfully dismantled an inter-district gang of burglars, apprehending three of its key members. The arrests, made on Thursday, put an end to a series of thefts targeting valuable road construction materials.
The Arrests and Seizure
The police operation led to the capture of three individuals identified as Pradeep, Vikas alias Annu, and Suchendra. All are residents of Rasoolabad in Kanpur Dehat. Upon their arrest, law enforcement officials conducted a seizure that uncovered a substantial cache of items.
The recovered materials include:
- 13 special parts of iron angles
- 160 nuts and bolts
- One wrench and one spanner
- Cash amounting to Rs 14,070
- A pickup van used in the crimes
- Four mobile phones
Modus Operandi and Motive
Investigations revealed a direct link between the crimes and financial pressure. The gang confessed to committing the thefts specifically to gather funds for paying instalments on the loan for their pickup van. Their target was the newly constructed Ram Van Gaman Path in the Kaushambi area.
The authorities of a construction company had first alerted the police by filing a First Information Report (FIR) on November 28 against unidentified persons for stealing metal beams and other special parts.
Police scrutiny of CCTV footage and intelligence gathering proved crucial. Acting on the compiled inputs, a police team intercepted the gang's pickup van near Chitapur Basedi Road, leading to the three arrests.
Timeline of Thefts and Financial Gain
The gang executed two major thefts on November 26 and December 4. The stolen materials, with an estimated value of Rs 1.12 lakh, were subsequently sold off. From the proceeds, the accused paid two loan instalments totalling Rs 35,400 for their vehicle. The remaining money from their illegal activities was distributed among themselves.
This case highlights how financial desperation can drive individuals to commit serious property crimes, impacting infrastructure projects. The swift action by Kaushambi police has not only led to recoveries but also prevented further potential losses to public property.
