Kazakh National Escapes from Mapusa Detention Centre

Mapusa: A Kazakh national, Alexander Arkhipov, who was awaiting deportation, escaped from the Mapusa detention centre at 8:45 PM on Monday. According to police, Arkhipov scaled the high compound wall and fled the premises.

How the Escape Happened

A police officer stated that the incident occurred shortly after inmates were let out of their cells for their daily routine. Seizing the opportunity, Arkhipov walked towards the washbasin area located at the rear side of the centre. Before the guards could react, the foreign national jumped over the adjacent security wall and disappeared.

Search Efforts

Although the detention centre staff chased him, he managed to outrun them. A search was immediately launched by security personnel and police, who combed through the town. However, the Kazakh national remains at large.

Background

Police said Arkhipov was arrested by Mandrem police for statutory violations and transferred to the Mapusa detention facility to facilitate his repatriation. Mapusa police have registered a case and are investigating the security breach.
