In a significant ruling, the district and sessions court in Keonjhar, Odisha, has delivered a verdict in a brutal murder case, sentencing Ramsingh Munda to life imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 for the crime of intentionally running over a man with a jeep, leading to his death. Additionally, the judge ordered an extra one year of imprisonment if the fine is not paid, underscoring the severity of the offense.

Details of the 2025 Incident

According to public prosecutor Pradeep Kumar Das, the tragic event unfolded in January 2025. On January 7, 2025, Manoj Kumar Mahanta, aged 28 from Raikala village under the Keonjhar Sadar police station, and Tarini Prasad Mahanta from Baneikala village traveled to Aahikala village under the Nayakot police station. Their purpose was to collect pending financial dues from Ramsingh Munda.

During a heated argument over the unpaid money, Ramsingh allegedly resorted to verbal abuse and threats. Court Proceedings and Verdict

While announcing the judgment, the district judge meticulously reviewed the evidence presented during the trial. The court relied heavily on the testimonies of 11 witnesses, who provided crucial accounts of the incident and its circumstances. Furthermore, the police investigation report played a pivotal role in establishing the sequence of events and Ramsingh's culpability.

After thorough deliberation, the judge concluded that the evidence overwhelmingly supported the charges, leading to the imposition of life imprisonment. The additional penalty of a fine and potential extra jail time for non-payment reflects the court's commitment to delivering justice and deterring similar crimes in the future.
