Kerala High Court Extends Protection for Viral Kumbh Mela Girl and Husband

The Kerala High Court has issued a significant interim order, restraining the arrest of the viral Kumbh Mela girl and her husband, Moh Farmaan, until May 20. This decision comes in response to a case registered in Madhya Pradesh based on a complaint by the girl's father, who alleges she was underage at the time of her marriage.

Legal Proceedings and Anticipatory Bail Petition

A bench led by Justice Kauser Edappagath granted this protection while hearing an anticipatory bail petition filed jointly by the girl and Farmaan. The petitioners argued that the father's complaint, lodged with the sub-divisional officer (Police) at Mandleshwar in Khargone, Madhya Pradesh, is unfounded. They contend that the case was registered alleging the girl was a minor when she married on March 11.

To counter these claims, the couple presented compelling evidence, including:

  • A copy of her birth certificate issued by the registrar of births and deaths, Maheshwar Nagar panchayat.
  • Her Aadhaar card, both documents asserting she was not a minor at the time of marriage.

Background of the Relationship and Marriage

The petition details that the couple first met at a puja ceremony for a new Malayalam film. They fell in love and decided to live together, leading to their marriage being solemnized at the Sree Nainar Deva Temple in Arumanoor, Thiruvananthapuram. This romantic beginning has now been overshadowed by legal challenges.

Allegations of Ulterior Motives

Farmaan has raised serious allegations against the girl's relative, who he claims is acting as her manager in dealings with film producers. According to the petition, this relative initiated the case with the intent to secure her custody. The motive, as alleged, is to enter into more contracts with prominent producers in her name, exploiting her viral fame from the Kumbh Mela.

Previous Court Hearings and Extensions

The legal battle has seen multiple hearings. On March 23, the bench issued an initial interim order preventing the arrest of the petitioners and adjourned the case while issuing a notice to the state police chief of Madhya Pradesh. During the subsequent hearing on April 8, the senior public prosecutor reported that the Director General of Police (DGP) of Madhya Pradesh had not provided any instructions regarding the case.

In light of this, the bench decided to extend the interim order restraining the arrest of the petitioners. The case has now been adjourned to May 20, allowing for further legal proceedings and potential resolution.

This case highlights the intersection of personal relationships, legal disputes, and the influence of social media fame, with the Kerala High Court playing a crucial role in ensuring justice and protection for the involved parties.
