Kerala: Man, 69, Arrested for Attacking Woman with Iron Broom

In a disturbing incident in Kochi's Munambam area, a 69-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly attacking a woman with an iron yard broom. The attack, which occurred on Sunday, was recorded by the victim and the video has since gone viral on social media, sparking outrage.

Details of the Incident

The accused, identified as Sunni Koottala of Kuzhippilly, was taken into custody on Monday following a complaint filed by the 46-year-old woman. According to the First Information Report (FIR), the accused had used mud to block the flow of water on the road in front of his house. When the woman questioned him about this action around 5:15 pm on Sunday, he allegedly retaliated by attacking her with the iron broom. The man reportedly used the broom to stab her in the neck, causing injuries.

Victim's Account

The woman told the media that she intervened because the obstruction of water flow led to water entering her property. She further claimed that the attack occurred in the presence of a local body member. The woman also alleged that the police arrested the man only after news channels broadcast the story on Monday. She stated that she has been experiencing health issues following the attack and is awaiting her son's arrival to seek medical help, as she lives alone in the area.
