Kothamangalam police on Tuesday arrested a 46-year-old man for allegedly assaulting a nursing assistant at Taluk Headquarters Hospital in Kothamangalam. The incident occurred on Monday night, according to officials.
Details of the Incident
The accused, identified as Aneesh of Thrikkariyoor, was reportedly in an inebriated condition when he arrived at the hospital around 10:30 p.m. accompanying an injured person. He attempted to forcefully enter the casualty area, leading to a commotion. Medical staff intervened and provided treatment to the injured individual, after which both were asked to leave the casualty ward. However, Aneesh tried to re-enter the area, prompting security personnel to intervene. During the altercation, he allegedly assaulted nursing assistant Joji George, causing injuries to his head and lip.
Legal Action Taken
A case has been registered against Aneesh under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Kerala Healthcare Service Persons and Healthcare Service Institutions Amendment Act, 2023. The police have taken the accused into custody and further investigation is underway.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of healthcare workers in the region. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring the protection of medical professionals and strict action against those who disrupt hospital operations.
