Kovalam police arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly attempting to murder his elder brother with a machete following a family dispute at Vizhinjam Town on Sunday. The accused was identified as Muhammad Ashiq of Pulimoottuvilakam. His elder brother Ahmed Hashim (30), who sustained serious injuries in the attack, was admitted to the Medical College Hospital (MCH).
Sequence of Events
Police said the incident began after Hashim allegedly picked up a quarrel with his mother and sister at their residence. During the altercation, the mother reportedly collapsed and was later shifted to Vizhinjam Community Health Centre by the sister. An argument broke out between the brothers, who later reached the hospital, escalating into a violent clash. During the confrontation, Ashiq allegedly attacked Hashim with a machete.
Legal Action
Police registered a case against Ashiq under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and arrested him. Further investigations are underway.
Second Incident: Pazhavangadi Clash
In a separate incident, Fort Police arrested two history-sheeters in connection with a violent clash reported at Pazhavangadi on Saturday. The arrested were identified as Manikandan (36) of Balaramapuram and Rajesh (46) of Kanjirampara.
Details of the Clash
Police said the incident occurred following a dispute linked to previous enmity between the two. According to police, Manikandan allegedly assaulted Rajesh after questioning him for interfering in his personal affairs. In retaliation, Rajesh allegedly attacked Manikandan with a machete after the latter refused to accompany him for a robbery attempt. Separate cases were registered based on the complaints filed by both accused.
Both incidents highlight the ongoing issues of violent disputes in the region, with authorities taking swift action to maintain law and order.
