Kerala man kills mother with knife, surrenders to police

A 30-year-old man allegedly killed his mother with a knife at their home near Peravoor in Kerala's Kannur district on Friday night and later surrendered to the police, officials said on Saturday.

The victim was identified as Geethamma (53), wife of Thankachan, a resident of Kanichar. Her husband was not at home at the time of the incident.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the accused, Christy, attacked his mother with a knife in the bedroom between 8 pm and 9 pm, inflicting a severe neck injury that led to her death. After the attack, Christy walked into the Kelakom police station and confessed to the crime.

Police said Christy allegedly carried out the attack after believing that people in the locality were speaking negatively about his mother. He had earlier been studying at a college in Bengaluru but returned home before completing his course.

Geethamma ran a beauty parlour and was also associated with the BJP Mahila Morcha. After the incident, Christy reportedly called a friend and rode a motorcycle to the police station, where he informed officers about what had happened. Police then reached the house and rushed Geethamma to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Relatives alleged that Christy was involved in drug abuse. Kelakom police have registered a case of murder.
