Kerala MLAs Demand Action Over Assault Report Tampering

Kottayam: MLA A D Thomas and Youth Congress state general secretary Ajay Jewel Kuriakose, who were allegedly assaulted during the Nava Kerala Yatra in 2023, have demanded action against officials including former ADGP M R Ajithkumar for undermining the ‘rescue operation’ case. In this case, the former chief minister’s gunmen attacked and injured them.

Statements to SIT

On Saturday, they arrived at the Alappuzha crime branch office to give their statements to the Special Investigation Team (SIT). They said steps should be taken against officials, including the former ADGP, who they alleged worked to alter the report. Whether to add the remaining officials as accused will be decided after consulting legal experts.

Allegations Against Former ADGP

They alleged that the former ADGP summoned the then investigating officer, a crime branch DSP, to Thiruvananthapuram three times and got the report altered. They said they would meet the Chief Minister and the Home Minister again to demand action against those who influenced that senior officer.

Demand for Action

Action against the former CM’s gunmen who committed the offence is expected, they said, adding that tampering with the report is a grave matter. They claimed this was not uncovered during the earlier probe. Even after two and a half years, police have not collected eyewitness statements or CCTV footage from the General Hospital junction. They added that this case should serve as a lesson to everyone who unjustly assaulted people for simply protesting.
