KASARGOD: The Kerala Police have initiated an investigation following a reported death threat against Congress MLA Sandeep Varier. According to a complaint filed by the legislator, an unidentified caller threatened to shoot him. The Chandera Police have registered a case and launched a probe into the incident, as per news agency PTI.
Investigation Details
Police officials stated that preliminary investigations suggest the threat may have originated from within Kerala, yet initial findings indicate that the call was made from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. Investigators have obtained details of the phone number and call records, which are currently being examined as part of the inquiry. The cyber wing has also been engaged to verify the identity of the caller and ascertain the motive behind the threat.
Police Response
Authorities have emphasized that all possible angles are being explored given the seriousness of the matter. Efforts are underway to identify and trace the person responsible for the threat, they added.
Varier, a former BJP leader, quit the party in 2024 and joined the Congress. This incident has raised concerns about the security of elected representatives in the state.
