The Special Investigation Team (SIT) in Kottayam registered a case of attempt to murder against police personnel, including the former chief minister's gunman and guard, on Saturday. The accused are charged with assaulting members of the Kerala Students Union (KSU) and Youth Congress during the Navakerala Sadas yatra.
The SIT submitted a new report to the court, adding non-bailable sections to the case. This move came as the first and second accused, Anilkumar and Sandeep, were planning to file a petition in the Alappuzha Judicial First Class Magistrate Court on Saturday. The district sessions court had earlier rejected their anticipatory bail applications, prompting them to consider surrendering before the court to obtain bail.
Upon learning of their plan, the SIT arrived at the court and submitted the new report, effectively thwarting the accused's attempt to surrender. The anticipatory bail applications of other accused police personnel, namely Arun, Vipin, and Shaiju, who were escorting the chief minister's vehicle, will be considered by the Alappuzha District Sessions Court on Wednesday.
