Tech Professional Faces Serious Charges After Mid-Air Incident
In a disturbing incident that has raised concerns about passenger behavior and cabin crew safety, a technology professional from Kerala was arrested for allegedly sexually harassing a stewardess aboard an Air India flight. The incident occurred on Friday aboard flight AI-2204 traveling from Dubai to Hyderabad.
The accused has been identified as Biniyam Nazar, a man in his 30s who works in the technology sector. The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport Police took him into custody based on a formal complaint filed by a senior Air India cabin crew member.
Disturbing Details of the Mid-Air Harassment
According to the First Information Report (FIR) registered by authorities, Nazar was seated in seat 17C when he allegedly touched a stewardess inappropriately while she was performing her duties. The incident created an uncomfortable and unsafe environment for the cabin crew member who was simply doing her job.
Crew members monitoring passenger behavior noticed that Nazar appeared to be intoxicated during the flight. Concerned about his behavior and potential risk to others, they immediately alerted both the captain and ground staff about the situation. This prompt action demonstrated the crew's professionalism in handling potentially dangerous situations.
The Discovery of Obscene Messages and Arrest
After the aircraft landed at Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Nazar informed the cabin crew that he had misplaced his passport. While assisting him in searching his seat area, crew members made a shocking discovery - a handwritten note containing what police described as "obscene and abusive remarks" apparently directed at an air hostess.
The RGIA police registered a case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including:
- Section 74: Assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty
- Section 75(1)(ii): Sexual harassment
- Section 79: Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman
Following the registration of the case, the accused was formally handed over to police custody. The incident has sparked discussions about the safety of airline staff and the need for stricter enforcement of regulations concerning passenger behavior aboard aircraft.
This case highlights the ongoing challenges faced by cabin crew members who must sometimes deal with inappropriate passenger behavior while ensuring the safety and comfort of all travelers. Airlines continue to emphasize their zero-tolerance policy toward any form of harassment against their staff.
