Kerala Techie Goes Missing During Trek to Kodagu's Highest Peak
A 36-year-old woman from Kochi, Kerala, has gone missing during her visit to Tadiyandamol, the highest peak in Kodagu district, Karnataka. According to Kodagu district police, Sharanya, who works as a techie, traveled alone from Kerala and went to the popular tourist site on Thursday but did not return.
Details of the Disappearance
Sharanya stayed at a homestay in Yavakapady village and had booked a ticket online for trekking. As she was alone, she was sent with other tourists as a precautionary measure, given that wild elephants roam in the area. However, when other tourists returned on Thursday evening, Sharanya was not with them.
Locals immediately informed forest department staff, prompting a search operation involving forest officials, police, and villagers. Due to darkness, the search was suspended late on Thursday evening, according to Kudiyara Muthappa, a local who alerted authorities. The team resumed the search early on Friday morning.
Intensified Search Efforts
Kodagu SP Bindu Mani stated that the woman's family is being regularly updated about the search-related developments. DCF (Madikeri) Abhishek revealed that five search teams have been formed, including two with police personnel.
"We are searching at many locations. Kodagu district police dog squad is also involved in the operation, and drones are also being used," the DCF added.
Terrain and Safety Concerns
Interestingly, DCF Abhishek explained that Tadiyandamol is not considered a particularly tough track, and one can typically reach back to the foothill easily without getting lost. This makes Sharanya's disappearance even more concerning for authorities.
The search operation continues as multiple agencies work together to locate the missing Kerala techie in the Kodagu hills.
