KGMU Doctor Suspended for Sexual Exploitation, Forced Conversion Bid
KGMU doctor suspended over sexual harassment, conversion charges

A 28-year-old junior resident doctor at Lucknow's prestigious King George's Medical University (KGMU) has been suspended and faces serious criminal charges following a complaint by a female colleague. The woman has accused him of sexual exploitation, blackmail, criminal intimidation, and pressuring her to change her religion under the false pretext of marriage.

Suspension and Immediate Actions

On Tuesday, the Dean (Academics) of KGMU issued an official order suspending the accused doctor. The university has barred him from all official duties and campus entry, permitting access only for inquiry proceedings. The complaint has been taken up by the university's Internal Committee for Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace.

The suspension was specifically ordered based on the sexual harassment complaint. Allegations related to attempted religious conversion are still under verification by the police. The Chief Minister's office has also taken cognizance of the matter and directed a swift investigation.

Detailed Allegations and Timeline of Events

The woman doctor submitted a written complaint to the Chowk police station and the KGMU administration on Monday. According to her statement, the accused, who works in the same department, befriended her in July 2025, introducing himself as a resident of Khatima in Uttarakhand.

Their relationship developed, and he repeatedly promised to marry her. In August 2025, he visited her rented accommodation in Thakurganj and established a physical relationship based on these assurances.

The situation took a drastic turn in September when the woman discovered she was pregnant. Upon being informed, the accused allegedly gave her medication to terminate the pregnancy, stating it should not continue as they were unmarried. Around the same time, she was contacted by a woman claiming to be his legally wedded wife since February 2025, following her conversion.

When confronted, the accused denied being married and again promised marriage. However, in October, when the complainant insisted on marriage, he allegedly made it conditional upon her changing her religion. After she refused and tried to distance herself, he threatened to make their intimate photographs and videos public.

Police Case and Ongoing Probe

The alleged sustained blackmail and mental trauma pushed the woman into severe distress, leading to a suicide attempt on December 17. She was saved by the timely intervention of friends. While recuperating, her father filed a complaint on the Chief Minister's grievance portal on December 19. After discharge, the woman recorded her formal statement.

An FIR has been registered at Chowk police station under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The charges include sexual intercourse obtained by deceitful means, causing miscarriage without consent, and criminal intimidation. Provisions of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021, have also been invoked.

ACP Chowk, Raj Kumar Singh, confirmed the registration of the FIR and stated that a probe is underway. Meanwhile, members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a protest against the accused doctor on the KGMU campus on Tuesday and submitted a memorandum to university officials.

While attempts to contact the accused were unsuccessful, KGMU officials stated that the doctor has claimed he is not married and that the relationship was consensual. The investigation by both the university's internal committee and the police continues.
