In a distressing development from Bihar, police in Khagaria district have successfully cracked the murder case of 13-year-old Himanshu Kumar, uncovering that his two close friends, aged 14 and 15, were responsible for the brutal killing. The revelation came on Saturday after the duo confessed to the crime, citing revenge as their motive following a theft incident where Himanshu had disclosed their names.

Details of the Tragic Incident

According to police reports, Himanshu was lured away from his home on the evening of March 19 under false pretenses. His body was discovered the following night in a maize field located in the Beldaur police station area. The investigation revealed that the accused minors took him to the field on the pretext of creating a social media reel, only to murder him with a knife.

On March 19, after returning from school, Himanshu was playing outside his house when he suddenly went missing. When he failed to return home by late night, his mother, Anuja Devi, filed a kidnapping complaint at the Beldaur police station. The next night, his body was recovered from Maheshlakkha Bahiyar, north of the village, with visible injury marks.

Motive and Confession

Gogri SDPO Sakshi Kumari provided insights into the motive behind the murder. She stated, "Approximately ten days prior to the incident, a theft occurred in a local house, involving Himanshu and his two friends. During the theft, Himanshu was caught and revealed the names of his accomplices. A village panchayat was subsequently held, leading to the recovery of the stolen goods."

During police interrogation, the two minors confessed that they lured Himanshu to the corn field by exploiting their shared habit of watching and creating social media videos. They initially tied his hands in a playful manner, but the situation escalated quickly. When Himanshu attempted to free himself, they stabbed him to death with a knife.

Evidence and Recovery

Based on the confessions, police recovered the knife used in the murder, along with a silver disc and a bangle from the scene. The SDPO confirmed that the accused have fully admitted to their crime, providing a clear account of the events leading to the tragic outcome.

This case highlights alarming trends in juvenile crime and the influence of social media on young minds. Authorities are continuing their investigation to ensure justice is served, while the community grapples with the shock of such a violent act among minors.
