A day after the Bihar Fire Service issued a notice to tutor Faisal Khan, popularly known as Khan Sir, over alleged fire safety lapses at his coaching institute, his lawyer moved a Patna court on Monday seeking anticipatory bail in a case linked to a firing and vandalism incident earlier this month. The court is scheduled to hear the anticipatory bail plea on June 9.
Speaking to reporters outside the court, Khan Sir's lawyer Arvind Kumar Mahuar said all relevant facts had been placed before the court. "As per the law, I have placed all the facts before the court," he stated.
Background of the Incident
The violence took place on the night of June 2 outside Khan Global Studies in the Kadamkuan area. Police reported that the clash was allegedly linked to rivalry between Khan Global Studies and another coaching institute. According to the complaint, a group of people entered the premises, damaged property, tore down banners and posters, assaulted security guards, and created panic by allegedly opening fire.
Following a complaint from Khan Global Studies, the director of the rival institute was arrested along with some associates.
New Developments and FIR
The case took a fresh turn after a video surfaced showing two security guards allegedly firing into the air. The guards were arrested, and police later registered an FIR against Khan Sir and two others after the guards allegedly claimed during interrogation that they had acted on his instructions.
The FIR lodged at Kadamkuan police station includes charges under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and provisions of the Arms Act. The weapons used in the incident have been seized and sent for forensic examination.
Lawyer's Defense
Mahuar argued that the FIR was intended to damage his client's reputation and maintained that Khan Sir had no direct role in the incident. He suggested that the guards may have acted in self-defence during the attack.
Meanwhile, supporters and students of the arrested coaching institute director held candlelight vigils in Patna on Monday, demanding his release and alleging the case against him was fabricated.
