Khanna Police Dismantle Major Drug Supply Network in Ludhiana Region

In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Khanna police have successfully dismantled a sophisticated drug supply network operating in the region. The operation resulted in the arrest of eight individuals and the recovery of a substantial quantity of illegal substances and assets used for smuggling purposes.

Massive Narcotics Haul and Asset Seizure

Police officials confirmed the seizure of 4 kilograms of opium and 44 kilograms of poppy husk, totaling 48 kilograms of narcotics. Alongside the drugs, authorities confiscated multiple vehicles and equipment believed to be integral to the smuggling operation. The seized items include:

  • Two tractors
  • Two trolleys
  • A reaper machine
  • A Mahindra Scorpio SUV

These assets were allegedly used to transport and distribute the contraband across the region, highlighting the organized nature of the criminal enterprise.

Operation Unfolds During Routine Check

Senior Superintendent of Police (Khanna) Darpan Ahluwalia detailed that the operation commenced on April 13 during a routine vehicle inspection conducted by the CIA Khanna team. The checkpoint was established near Sai Mandir, where officers noticed a suspicious tractor-trolley arriving from the Amloh direction.

When police signaled the vehicle to stop, the driver attempted to flee the scene. However, law enforcement personnel swiftly deployed barricades to intercept the tractor-trolley, preventing the suspects from escaping.

Initial Arrests and Interrogation Breakthroughs

Four individuals were immediately apprehended at the scene:

  • Arshpreet Singh of village Poonia
  • Manpreet Singh of village Poonia
  • Gurdeep Singh of village Ranwan
  • Gurvinder Singh of village Rajgarh

A thorough search of the trolley revealed the concealed poppy husk and opium. During subsequent interrogation, these suspects provided crucial information that led investigators to identify additional accomplices in the network.

Network Expansion and Further Arrests

The initial detainees identified Rohit, alias RP of Machhiwara, and Balwant Singh, alias Sunny of Village Garhi Tarkhana as key players in the operation. Police investigations revealed that these two individuals had procured the contraband from Madhya Pradesh using the seized Mahindra Scorpio SUV for transportation.

Further investigative work uncovered the distribution aspect of the network, leading to the identification and arrest of Karnail Singh of Mandcharodi village and Amarjit Singh of Mithewal village. These individuals were allegedly responsible for distributing the narcotics within the region, completing the supply chain from procurement to local distribution.

Legal Proceedings and Ongoing Investigation

The Sadar Khanna Police have registered a formal case under multiple sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, specifically Sections 15, 18, 29, 61, and 85. These charges cover various aspects of narcotics possession, trafficking, and conspiracy.

SSP Darpan Ahluwalia emphasized that the investigation remains active and ongoing. Police are currently working to trace both the forward and backward linkages of this extensive racket, attempting to identify suppliers, distributors, and consumers connected to the network.

Officials have indicated that more arrests are likely as the probe continues to uncover the full scope and operational details of this smuggling operation. The dismantling of this network represents a significant blow to drug trafficking activities in the Ludhiana region and demonstrates law enforcement's commitment to combating narcotics-related crime.
