Khanna Police Intensifies 'War Against Drugs' with Major Asset Freeze
In a significant escalation of its ongoing 'War Against Drugs' campaign, the Khanna police have executed a decisive move by freezing properties valued at Rs 42.5 lakh belonging to an alleged drug smuggler. This action targets the financial backbone of narcotics operations, aiming to cripple the reinvestment of illicit gains into the local economy.
Details of the Frozen Assets and Accused Individuals
SSP Khanna, Dr. Darpan Ahluwalia, confirmed that the crackdown was directed against Dharamvir and his mother Geeta, residents of an area opposite Guru Nanak College in Doraha. The frozen assets include a plot worth Rs 36 lakh, construction valued at Rs 6.17 lakh, and Rs 28,100 identified as drug money. Police officials stated that the competent authority in Delhi acted on the recommendation of Khanna police, effectively barring the accused from selling or transferring these properties.
Background of the Case and Investigation
The enforcement stems from a case registered last year under the NDPS Act after 15 grams of heroin was recovered from Abhishek Singh and Navdeep Singh, both residents of Payal. During the subsequent investigation, Dharamvir Gujjar was nominated as an accused. Following his arrest, police made a substantial recovery from his possession:
- 150 grams of heroin
- 500 grams of 'Ice' (a synthetic drug)
- ₹2,800 in drug money
The SHO of Doraha police station conducted a thorough financial probe into the illegally acquired assets, which revealed properties purchased in the mother's name, highlighting attempts to conceal illicit wealth.
Pattern of Recent Enforcement Actions
This latest action is part of a broader strategy by district authorities to dismantle the financial infrastructure of the local narcotics trade. Recent similar cases include:
- In March, Khanna police attached property worth Rs 29.5 lakh belonging to a drug peddler who had also purchased assets in his mother's name.
- On September 16, 2025, Maloud police arrested Baljinder Singh, alias Gurpreet Singh of Dudal Road, after recovering 54 kilograms of poppy husk.
- Earlier, around February, Khanna police attached properties worth Rs 1.27 crore belonging to Jasdev Singh, a drug peddler from Machhiwara.
These consecutive actions underscore the department's focused approach to prevent the reinvestment of illicit proceeds into local real estate and curb the expansion of criminal networks within the region. By targeting assets, authorities aim to deliver a long-term blow to smuggling operations, moving beyond mere arrests to disrupt the economic incentives driving the drug trade.
