Khargone: Man arrested for murder of woman in relationship

Police in Madhya Pradesh's Khargone district have arrested a man for the alleged murder of a 27-year-old woman, with whom he was in a relationship. The accused, identified as Yogesh Bare, was taken into custody on Tuesday and later sent to judicial custody by a local court.

Body Discovered Near Pond

The case came to light on Monday morning when the body of the woman, identified as Sangeeta, was discovered in bushes near a pond along Jhirniya Road on the outskirts of Bhikangaon town. Additional Superintendent of Police, Shakuntala Ruhal, stated that blood was seen coming from the victim's nose, immediately raising suspicions of foul play.

Investigation and CCTV Footage

During the initial investigation, it was revealed that Sangeeta had gone missing from her house in the Freeganj area of Bhikangaon on Sunday evening. Authorities reviewed CCTV footage which showed her walking towards the pond area where her body was later found. Further probe into her call detail records (CDR) indicated she was in constant contact with Yogesh Bare, a resident of Jamli village in the neighbouring Khandwa district. Yogesh was later brought in for questioning and also identified the body.

Confession and Motive

During police interrogation, Yogesh Bare confessed to the crime. He admitted to being in a relationship with Sangeeta and expressed a desire to marry her. However, he told police that he had begun suspecting her of infidelity and objected to her speaking with other people on her mobile phone.

According to his confession, on Sunday evening, he called Sangeeta to the isolated pond area. An argument ensued, following which he strangled her to death using her own dupatta.

ASP Ruhal also provided background on the victim. Sangeeta had gotten married in Rajasthan in 2019 and was a mother of two children. She had later left her husband and was living with her mother in Bhikangaon. One of her children stays with the former husband, while the other lives with her sister.

The accused was produced before a court on Tuesday and has been remanded to judicial custody as the investigation continues.
