Khargone Domestic Dispute Ends in Double Tragedy
A horrific incident of domestic violence unfolded in Khargone district, resulting in the death of a woman and her infant son. Police arrested the husband on Friday after he confessed to assaulting his wife over suspicions of infidelity.
Bodies Found in Bakawa Village Home
Khargone Superintendent of Police Ravindra Verma stated that authorities received information on Thursday morning about two bodies discovered inside a house in Bakawa village. The victims were identified as 30-year-old Champabai Mankar and her six-month-old son.
Police and forensic teams immediately rushed to the location. They found the bodies lying inside the residence while the woman's husband, Sunil, sat nearby. Examination revealed multiple injury marks on Champabai's body, raising immediate suspicion.
Violent Confrontation Over Character Doubts
Bedia police station in-charge Dharmendra Yadav provided chilling details about the incident that occurred during the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. According to Yadav, Champabai had gone outside late at night to relieve herself.
When she returned, Sunil encountered her and noticed her dishevelled clothing. He immediately began accusing her of having an illicit relationship, repeating previous allegations. The confrontation quickly turned violent as Sunil started beating her on the spot.
When Champabai did not resist the assault, Sunil became more aggressive. He demanded she reveal the name of the person he suspected. After she remained silent, he brought her inside their house and continued the brutal attack.
Escalating Violence and Tragic Consequences
Sunil assaulted his wife with a stick and kicked her repeatedly in the ribs and stomach. The beating continued until Champabai lost consciousness. At this point, Sunil realized the seriousness of the situation and attempted to call his farm owner for help, but the call went unanswered.
During the commotion, the couple's six-month-old son began crying. Sunil allegedly placed the infant beside his unconscious mother, positioning him as if she was breastfeeding him. He then covered both with a blanket before leaving the house to try calling for help again.
When Sunil returned and heard no sound, he assumed both were asleep and lay down next to them. The couple's three other children were sleeping in another room throughout this ordeal.
Morning Discovery and Medical Findings
In the morning, Sunil found no movement from either his wife or their infant son. He then informed others about the situation. Both bodies were sent to Civil Hospital in Sanawad for postmortem examination.
Dr Vijay Kori and Dr Richa Patidar, who conducted the autopsy, reported finding two deep injuries on the woman's liver and one deep injury on her spleen. They determined her death resulted from blunt force trauma. The preliminary cause of death for the infant was asphyxia.
Aftermath and Family Situation
Police have handed over the three surviving children to their grandparents. Investigators revealed that Sunil originally hails from Premgarh village in Dewas district and had come to Bedia for labor work.
The case highlights the devastating consequences of domestic disputes and suspicions that escalate into fatal violence. Authorities continue their investigation while the community grapples with this double tragedy that has left three children without their mother and infant brother.
