In a swift operation, Kishanganj district police in Bihar have apprehended four individuals for the brutal murder of a 25-year-old man, which they later attempted to pass off as a fatal road accident. The arrests came within a mere 18 hours of the crime, uncovering a conspiracy driven by family anger over an alleged extra-marital relationship.
Murder Over Alleged Illicit Affair
The victim, identified as Zulfkar, hailed from Padaria village in the neighbouring Araria district. According to police investigations, he was reportedly involved in a relationship with a woman named Khushbu (19). The two had reportedly met at a wedding approximately six months prior and had remained in contact since.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Kishanganj, Sagar Kumar, detailed the sequence of events. "On the night of December 20, the woman called Zulfkar to her home in Dahibhat village under the Tedhagach police station area. While they were together, her brothers caught them," the SP stated. Enraged by the discovery, the brothers, along with other family members, tied Zulfkar up, subjected him to a severe beating, and fatally struck him on the head with a stick.
Staging the Scene: A Failed Cover-Up
In a desperate bid to destroy evidence and evade justice, the accused devised a plan to make the murder look like an accident. They loaded Zulfkar's body into a car, transported it roughly 2 kilometres away to a location near Fulwadi village in Rajwan, and attempted to crush the body under the vehicle's wheels to simulate a hit-and-run incident.
However, their plan began to unravel at the scene itself. Police grew suspicious when they found Zulfkar's motorcycle undamaged and parked at the spot, inconsistent with a major road accident. The investigation gained momentum after a formal complaint was lodged by the victim's wife, Husne Ara.
Swift Police Action and Arrests
Acting on the complaint and the suspicious evidence, a special police team was formed under the direction of SP Sagar Kumar and led by SDPO-1 Gautam Kumar. The team employed technical surveillance and ground-level inquiries to quickly piece together the crime.
The police subsequently arrested four residents of Dahibhat village: Mohammad Adam, Sahajad Alam, Khushbu Begum, and Mohammad Anjar Alam. During interrogation, the accused confessed to their roles in the murder and the subsequent cover-up attempt. Authorities have recovered key evidence, including the car used to transport the body, a motorcycle, and four mobile phones. All accused have been sent to judicial custody.
This case highlights how personal disputes can escalate into extreme violence and the lengths to which perpetrators may go to conceal their crimes. The prompt action by Kishanganj police prevented the murder from being recorded as a mere traffic mishap.
