Kochi: Police investigating the racket supplying drugs to high-end parties in the city will expand the probe to other states. According to sources, the prime accused, Kevin B Mathew regularly procured drugs from major drug rackets in Bengaluru and Delhi.
The investigative team is gathering information about these drug networks, said sources. The probe team is expecting to receive Kevin in custody either on Monday or Tuesday. The team aims to further interrogate Mathew to identify his associates. They have collected details of his financial transactions and phone calls. The intention is to conduct detailed questioning based on this evidence, said sources.
Investigation into those linked to Mathew led to the arrest of two more persons on Saturday. Siyad, 42, and Adil Ansar, 24, were apprehended with 6.79g of MDMA and 56.98g of cannabis. Preliminary investigations revealed that Mathew was supplying them with drugs for two years and they were close associates, said sources.
Police have identified more members in Mathew's group and have expanded investigation to find them. On Thursday, another associate of Mathew, Palluruthy native P M Shameer, was arrested. Through Shameer's friend Siddique, Mathew supplied 50g of MDMA on two occasions. Police are closing in on Siddique and a female associate of Mathew.
Meanwhile, Muvattupuzha police said that a man who swallowed MDMA after a police raid on Saturday continues to remain hospitalised. The accused, Tony Sabu, 23, of Thodupuzha, is admitted to Govt Medical College Hospital (MCH), Kottayam. Police said prima facie the man only had a minuscule quantity of MDMA with him. He was initially taken to Muvattupuzha Taluk Hospital and then to MCH. Police also seized a minor quantity of ganja from three of his friends. Police said he will be questioned once he is discharged.
