Kochi: Police have arrested a 34-year-old man from Kumbalangi in connection with the murder of a cobbler whose body was discovered with multiple stab injuries at a vegetable stall in Illickal market on Saturday morning.
Arrest and Identification
The accused has been identified as Akhil Antony, a resident of Kumbalangi. He was taken into custody on Sunday, a day after the gruesome discovery. The deceased, known locally as ‘Mahin’ or ‘Annan,’ was a native of Palani, Tamil Nadu, and had been working as a cobbler near the market for approximately five years.
Details of the Incident
According to police reports, the victim was found dead around 7 am by a vegetable vendor from Palluruthy who arrived to open his shop. The body bore stab and slash wounds on the shoulder, face, and neck. Authorities suspect the murder occurred during the early hours of Saturday following an argument between the accused and the victim. The accused has a history of substance abuse, which may have contributed to the altercation.
Legal Proceedings
The Palluruthy police have registered a case under Sections 332(a) and 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Akhil Antony was produced before a court and subsequently remanded in judicial custody. Investigations are ongoing to uncover further details about the motive and events leading up to the crime.
