Arrest of 26-Year-Old for MDMA Possession

City police apprehended a 26-year-old man for possessing 5.11 grams of MDMA in the Edappally area near VP Marakkar Road, within the limits of the Kalamassery police station. The arrested individual has been identified as Don P J, a resident of East Kadungalloor in Aluva.

The operation was executed by the Kochi City Dansaf team under the leadership of narcotic cell assistant commissioner T D Sunilkumar. This action followed specific directions from commissioner K Mahesh Kumar, IPS, emphasizing the police department's commitment to eradicating drug trafficking in the city.

Detention of Repeat Offender Under PIT NDPS Act

In a related development, a 22-year-old man was detained under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT NDPS Act) and has been lodged in Poojappura Central Jail. The detainee, identified as Pranav from Unichira, Thrikkakara, in Ernakulam, is an accused in multiple narcotics cases and was arrested on Thursday.

He faces charges registered at several police stations within Kochi city limits, including:

  • Kalamassery
  • Elamakkara
  • Eloor
  • Thrikkakara
  • Cheranalloor

This detention is part of stringent measures taken against repeat offenders involved in drug-related crimes, with all proceedings completed efficiently by the city police.

Expanded Inspections and Joint Efforts

Incidentally, the rural district police and excise department have also ramped up their inspections to curb the use and trafficking of narcotic substances. Special squads have been formed to conduct thorough checks across all areas, ensuring a comprehensive approach to the issue.
