Kochi Police Crack Down on Drug Network, Arrest Six in Two Major MDMA Seizures
In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Ernakulam rural police have arrested six individuals in two separate cases involving synthetic drugs, with seizures of MDMA worth lakhs of rupees. The operations highlight ongoing efforts to dismantle drug networks in the region.
First Case: Major Interception of 550g MDMA
In the first incident, two key suspects were apprehended with a substantial quantity of MDMA. Muhsin, aged 28, from Kunnumpuram, Fort Kochi, and Mohammed Sahil, aged 25, from Thuruthi, were arrested by the Dansaf squad and Angamaly police on Friday.
The police revealed that the accused had procured the drugs from Bangalore and traveled by bike to Vaniyampaara. From there, they took a taxi towards Kochi with the intent of distribution. However, their plans were foiled when they were intercepted and detained by police at Angamaly.
The drugs, weighing 550g and valued at lakhs of rupees, were found hidden in a special compartment within a flask. Authorities stated that these individuals are considered key figures in the city's drug network, underscoring the importance of this arrest in disrupting illegal activities.
Second Case: Four Arrested with 3.5g MDMA Near Airport
In a separate operation, four more people were arrested with a smaller quantity of MDMA. The Dansaf and Nedumbassery police caught Abhijith Purushothaman, 24, from Chengamanad; Shelji K, 28, from Nooranad; Rishad, 26, from Thrikkakara; and Rinsi Mumtaz, 32, from Farook, Kozhikode on Saturday.
These individuals were staying in a hotel room in the Kariyad area. Police reported that the drugs, weighing 3.5g, were stored in a zip-lock bag. Their target was to sell the substances around the airport, indicating a strategic focus on high-traffic areas.
All four have previous criminal records, with the woman, Rinsi Mumtaz, recently released from remand, according to police statements. This arrest points to the recurring nature of drug-related offenses and the challenges in curbing such activities.

The Ernakulam rural police have emphasized that these arrests are part of broader initiatives to combat drug trafficking in Kochi and surrounding areas.
