Kochi Police Arrest Three in Separate Cases of Ganja, Fraud, Burglary

Kochi: In a series of operations, the city police apprehended several individuals in separate cases involving ganja, fraud, and burglary over the weekend.

Ganja Seizure

On Saturday, the Kochi city police arrested two men and seized 6.112 kilograms of ganja from a rented house. The accused were identified as Mahafuj S K, 21, and Eman S K, 23, both residents of Kazipara, Murshidabad, West Bengal.

Acting on a tip-off, the Kochi city Dansaf team, led by narcotics cell assistant commissioner T D Sunilkumar, conducted a raid at a rented house on Irumbanam Chungath Road, where the accused were residing. The duo was booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. They were produced before a court and subsequently remanded in judicial custody.

Fraud Case

In another development, a 51-year-old man was arrested in an economic offence case for alleged fraud. The accused was identified as Fazil Muhamed Shamier Marickar, 51, a resident of Vennala.

According to a statement from the city police, the accused, who was the chief operating officer at a private firm, transferred Rs 1.15 crore from the company account for a project without the board's knowledge to purchase land. He then allegedly sold this land without informing the board, causing a financial loss of Rs 1.15 crore to the company.

The arrest was made by the Kalamassery police team led by inspector Baiju E R, including sub-inspector Shameer A, assistant sub-inspector Shaij, and civil police officers Mahin Abubakar, Vinu, and Vineesh, from the accused's flat in Mulavukad. The accused was presented in court and remanded to Kakkanad jail.

Burglary Arrests

Meanwhile, the Chengamanad police arrested two men for an alleged burglary at a hotel on Saturday. The arrested persons were identified as Dipu Hajra, 26, from Sinpur, West Bengal, and Rajesh Bujal, 26, from Siliguri, West Bengal.

According to police, the accused broke into a hotel near Kurumassery and stole items worth Rs 25 lakh, including electric wires, earth line copper, and transformer copper. Police said Hajra has existing cases against him at Aluva and Ernakulam railway police stations.

They were apprehended from Chengamanad and Aluva areas. The investigation team included sub-inspectors K P Anilkumar, Navaneeth, and senior civil police officers Kishore, Aneesh, and Mithun.
