Kochi Police Crack Down on Drug Trade with Major Arrests
In a significant operation on Sunday night, the Kochi city police apprehended two individuals involved in the illegal drug trade, seizing a substantial quantity of synthetic drugs and cash. The arrests mark a crucial step in the ongoing efforts to combat narcotics distribution in the region.
Initial Arrest and Seizure
The police first detained C R Xavier, a 32-year-old resident of Rameswaram, during a routine check. From him, authorities confiscated 0.32 grams of MDMA, a potent synthetic drug, along with Rs 16,000 in cash and the vehicle he was operating at the time. This initial action set the stage for a more extensive investigation into the drug network.
Expanded Investigation and Further Seizures
Following the arrest of Xavier, police intensified their probe, which led them to the residence of Jacob Thomas, also known as Tony, from Mundamveli. At his house, officers discovered a much larger cache, including 27.87 grams of MDMA and Rs 2,03,100 in cash. The total seizure from both locations underscores the scale of the illicit operation.
Police Leadership and Legal Proceedings
The operation was spearheaded by Mattancherry assistant police commissioner C R Santhosh and Thoppumpady police station inspector Anand K P, who coordinated the efforts to ensure a successful outcome. After the arrests, the accused were presented before a court, where they were remanded into custody pending further legal action.

Thoppumpady police are now actively investigating the source of the drugs to dismantle the broader supply chain. This case highlights the police's commitment to tackling drug-related crimes and maintaining public safety in Kochi.
