Kochi: In two separate incidents on Wednesday, the city police seized narcotic substances and arrested two individuals. The Cheranelloor police intercepted Jismon Varghese, 24, of Ezhupunna, at the Cheranelloor signal junction during a routine patrol. They recovered 247 grams of methamphetamine and 250 grams of hybrid ganja from his possession.
Drug Parcel Investigation
Acting on a tip-off that large quantities of narcotics were being delivered to Ernakulam via parcel services, the police intensified patrolling at the junction. Following the seizure, authorities launched an investigation to trace the origin of the drugs. According to police sources, Varghese had been ordering narcotic substances from Bengaluru to Kerala through parcels and then selling them in small packets. In 2023, the Palakkad excise officials had registered a case against him in connection with a narcotics-related offense.
Second Seizure by Dansaf Team
Meanwhile, the Kochi Dansaf team arrested Hriday, 18, a resident of West Bengal, at Eloor. The team seized 13.6 kilograms of ganja from his possession. The accused was taken into custody and further investigations are underway to determine the source and distribution network of the drugs.
Molestation Case Solved
In a separate incident, the Palarivattom police arrested a man for allegedly molesting a woman by forcibly entering her room at a hostel near the Palarivattom Metro station. The accused has been identified as Robin Das, 39, of Alappuzha. The incident occurred around 4 a.m. on May 12, when the woman was asleep in her room. The man attempted to sexually assault her, but she raised an alarm, forcing him to flee. The following morning, she filed a complaint with the police.
Investigation and Arrest
The police launched an extensive investigation, examining approximately 200 surveillance cameras installed in and around the hostel and nearby areas. With the assistance of the cyber cell, the accused was traced and arrested from Edappally. Das was produced before a court, which remanded him in judicial custody.
